UKRPEC Received Appreciation from the Bucha Community for Its Contribution to
Improving Quality of Life

On September 20, the Bucha community recognized the Ukrainian Packaging and Ecological
Coalition for its contribution to developing a system for separate collection of packaging waste,
marking World Cleanup Day. The mayor of the hero city, Anatoliy Fedoruk, presented the
thanks during the celebration of Bucha Day as part of the “Lokalist” festival.

As part of the event, the UKRPEC team installed “EcoCorners” for separate waste collection
and conducted an educational campaign for residents and guests. Festival visitors were able to
sort their waste into three fractions: glass, plastic/metal/paper, and mixed waste. In addition,
every participant received educational leaflets outlining sorting rules to help reinforce these
skills in everyday life.

UKRPEC’s now traditional participation in the “Lokalist” festival demonstrates how cooperation
between local authorities, civic initiatives, and businesses can create effective environmental
education practices and help transform waste management culture.

The Bucha community is an active participant of the EcoHromada Pilot Project, which UKRPEC
is implementing in the Kyiv region in cooperation with local self-government bodies. The project
aims to put Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) into practice: developing infrastructure
financed by businesses and engaging residents in separate collection of packaging waste.

It is worth noting that in the first half of 2025 alone, the Bucha community collected more than
127 tonnes of packaging waste. This achievement clearly shows that with proper infrastructure
and active public participation, the EPR model can work — and is already working —
successfully in Ukrainian conditions.

This expression of gratitude from the community is not only nice distinction but also evidence
that our joint efforts deliver tangible results. We are proud of our partnership with Bucha and
sincerely congratulate the Hero City on its birthday!

Gradually but relentlessly, Ukraine is approaching the European waste management system,
harmonizing its legislation and implementing the principles of the circular economy.
